The San Francisco Young Democrats are pleased to announce our grant program. The SFYD Grant Program aims to help Young Democrats start a new chapter or help your existing Democratic club grow with money and support from the San Francisco Young Democrats. Read on for more details, or download an application (Word .doc file).

Who are the San Francisco young democrats?

The Young Democrats are the official youth arm of the Democratic Party, and serve Democrats aged 35 and under. SFYD is the largest Young Democrats club in California and one of the largest political clubs in the Bay Area. We hold monthly meetings in which speakers discuss current political issues; recent topics have included health care reform, local transportation issues, and online media. Last year we hosted the first debate between California State Senate candidates Senator Carol Migden and Assemblyman Mark Leno, and we often provide a forum for candidates, issue groups, and community activists to discuss elections and legislation with our members. SFYD also participates in a volunteer activity once a month, which varies from voter registration to park cleanup.

How can sfyd help me start a club / help my club grow?

As a club with over 500 members, we have the financial resources to help new and struggling clubs fund their projects. If you would like to see the young people in your community more involved with Democratic politics, we can provide seed money to get started. We can also provide experience and advice, if you need any assistance connecting with local and state politicians, finding speakers for club events, fundraising, or chartering with the national organization.

What are the advantages of chartering with the young democrats?

The Young Democrats of America has two seats on the Democratic National Committee, and the California Young Democrats alone have a budget of over $300,000. For the chartering cost of $2 per member, a club can tap into the considerable resources of the state and national network. Your club will be also be able to send voting delegates to YDA and CYD conventions in order to have a say in the actions taken by those organizations.
what do i have to do?
